U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb) said she is looking forward to the confirmation hearings of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks.
Nebraska’s senior senator serves on committees that will review several nominees.
“On Armed Services, we look at secretary of defense. On the Commerce Committee, we’re going to be looking at the secretary for transportation. EPW (Environment and Public Works) Committee, we’ll be looking at EPA administrator,” Fischer said during a recent news conference call with Nebraska reporters.
Fischer also serves on the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, which will consider the nominee to head the Small Business Administration.
“We’ll vet them. We’ll have public hearings on them, and then take a vote in committee and either advance them to the full senate or not,” she said.
Fischer calls Transportation secretary nominee Elaine Chao her “friend” who has a long record of success, having served as Labor secretary and a deputy secretary for Transportation.
“This is a person who, I believe, just looking at her resume is very well-qualified,” Fischer said. “I look forward to working with her on a lot of transportation issues in the future.”
