The Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) is showcasing the state’s public schools with a new video.
The seven-and-a-half minute spot features students, teachers, alumni, and administrators talking about the benefits of public education.
It’s titled “We are Public Eduction in Nebraska.”
Matt Belka, NASB director of marketing, communication, and advocacy, says the video has been in the works for more than a year.
“We think the public educational system here in Nebraska is one of the best in the nation,” Belka tells Nebraska Radio Network, “and simply wanted to shed light on our public education system and show that we have some really good things going on here.”
He says the target audience is the state’s 1,700 school board members, but he also hopes other watch it.
While some other associations and organizations make similar videos to make a case to lawmakers, Belka says there was no political motivation in making the video.
“We knew that when and if we did one, we wanted it to be more of a feel-good,” he says, “kind of expressing what we see every day as we’re traveling the state and visiting each district on what public education in Nebraska is.”
Sponsorships from ALICAP, Ameritas, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Crouch Recreation, DLR Group, FES, OneSource, Sparq Data Solutions, and Trane covered the cost of the video.
“Everyone who we reached out to was more than willing to, basically, drop everything and give us five to ten minutes of their time,” Belka says. “The amount of footage that’s on the cutting room floor that we weren’t able to use is abundant.”
