For the 55th Wing at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue it is work before pleasure. Spokesperson Drew Nystrom says that is why they cancelled their Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show for 2017.
Nystrom says, “The 55th Wing Airmen are providing world class intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance around the world, every hour, every day and the demand for a capability is only growing. We love hosting the Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show but our commander’s number one priority is taking care of our Airmen and one way to do that is to give back some time to them and their families.”
Nystrom says canceling the air show will also give them the opportunity to align themselves with the majority of Air Force insulations that typically offer shows bi-annually or at longer intervals. He says they understand the air show and open house is a tremendous opportunity to highlight their mission and resources to taxpayers and they intend to continue the show at the next available opportunity.
No dates for future Defenders of Freedom shows have been set at this time.
