Lincoln Police are investigating the discovery of a body inside the trunk of a vehicle early Thursday morning.
Chief Jeff Bliemeister says that police were called to an apartment parking lot where they encountered multiple individuals, who fled in an SUV.
“The caller did not hear a physical struggle or any kind of arguing, but it was mainly banging sounds that was disturbing the caller at that hour, so we responded to investigate,” Bliemeister tells Nebraska Radio Network affiliate KLIN.
He says a man who was standing in the parking lot when an officer arrived did not comply with a request to stop and he was able to flee the scene.
“Crime scene investigators are processing the vehicle. Investigators are working to determine where the victim’s death occurred,” Bliemeister says, adding that an autopsy has been ordered.
A canine was called to the scene to track the suspect who fled on foot, but was unsuccessful.
The discovery occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of North 23rd Street.
