Texas ended the Nebraska volleyball team’s bid for a second straight national title as the fourth-seeded Longhorns swept the top-seeded Huskers 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) at the NCAA Final Four in Columbus, Ohio. The loss snapped Nebraska’s 10-match winning streak in the NCAA Tournament.
“Texas deserves a lot of credit”, said Nebraska coach John Cook. “They played really well and we just could never get in a rhythm and put enough pressure on them.”
The Huskers swept the Longhorns in last year’s national title match and also beat them 3-0 during the opening weekend of this season.
“Every time we did make a run they answered right back”, said Nebraska junior setter Kelly Hunter. “They were fired up and took it from us right from the start.”
The Huskers close the season with a record of 31-3. Texas will play Stanford Saturday night in the NCAA Championship.
