Bowl bids are important not only for the chance to play another game but the extra practices can provide a head start on the future. Nebraska has taken advantage while getting ready to play Tennessee in the Music City Bowl as young players have gotten extra work. It includes quarterbacks Tanner Lee and Patrick O’Brien.
‘We have gotten better young guy work this year in general and we’ve had good practice with them in the bowl practices”, said Husker head coach Mike Riley. “The two quarterbacks look good.”
Offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf says the early bowl practices help the younger players get a head start on spring drills.
“This is a good time of year because you have time”, said Langsdorf. “You have got time to get you game plan together and then you have got time to look at the future a little bit. Basically it is an extra spring practice with these bowl practices.”
