Ninth ranked Creighton has equaled its best start in 72 years. The Bluejays broke the game open by scoring on their first five possessions of the second half in a 96-85 win at Arizona State.
The start matches Creighton’s 2003-04 team that also started 12-0. Only Creighton’s 1942-43 (16-0) and 1916-17 (13-0) teams have started better in program history. The victory was Creighton’s sixth this season against a team from a “Football 5” conference, the most in the country. Five of those wins have come away from home.
“I am happy to come here and get a win”, said Creighton coach Greg McDermott. ” It’s hard to get a road win. The game before Christmas, you are always concerned whether they will have one foot on the plane home already, but our guys remained focused and came here and got done what they needed to.”
Marcus Foster led six Bluejays in double-figures with a season-high 29 points, while Justin Patton added 18. The nation’s leader in three-point shooting, Creighton shot 14-of-25 from three-point range.
Arizona State dropped to 6-6 with the loss.
