One escapee from the Work Ethic Camp in McCook has been captured. The other remains at large.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services reports 20-year-old Andrew Russell has been arrested in South Dakota, where he remains in custody. Efforts are underway to return him to Nebraska.
35-year-old Charles Canady is still at large, according to the department, which asks the public to contact law enforcement if they have any information about his whereabouts.
The two walked away from the low-security prison in western Nebraska Wednesday.
Corrections officials reported them missing during a count Wednesday night.
The prison notified the Nebraska State Patrol and local law enforcement. Security footage was used to determine the two walked away at approximately 5:30pm Wednesday.
Corrections officials describe Canaday as a 35 year old, white male, 5′ 10′, 140 pounds, brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing khaki pants, a brown coat, and a gray stocking
cap. He was sentenced from Greeley, Howard, Sheridan, and Valley counties on three
counts of burglary, one count of theft and one count of criminal mischief.
The Work Ethic Camp is a minimum security facility in which inmates work in the community with only intermittent supervision.
