Fireworks sales officially started in Sarpy County today as residents get ready for a big New Year’s Eve celebration. Vince Bellino is the manager of Bellino’s Fireworks in Papillion and says things are shaping up for good December sales.
Bellino says, “It looks like we have some decent weather here for the next three days we are going to sell for. The New Year’s season is a little more dependent on the weather than it is on the 4th of July. And whether it is the summer season or the New Year’s season the days of the week it falls on takes a little bit of an affect. Today we are opening up a Thursday and we’ll probably be a little slow during the business hours but after business hours we should probably pick up a little bit. We kind of expect to pick up on Friday and Saturday and do pretty well with it coming up on the holiday.”
Bellino says they operate 120 stands in four states during the 4th of July. They have two stands open now that are both indoors so customers can shop in comfortable conditions. He says there is much less competition in December than in the summer so sales are relatively good.
Bellino says, “We use both of those locations in the winter and the summer. We are probably looking at doing at those particular stands 30% to 40% of the business that we do in the 4th of July season.’
Bellino says the good news is they don’t have a lot of operating costs using the two locations so they already have a built up customer base. They also have all the inventory in stock and overhead is minimal. He says the stands opened this morning and there has been a steady flow of customers.
