Former state Sen. John Wightman of Lexington has died.
Wightman served in the Unicameral from 2007 to 2015. Prior to his service in the legislature, Wightman served on the Lexington City Council and as Lexington mayor.
U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer released this statement:
“Bruce and I are saddened to hear about the passing of former Nebraska State Senator John Wightman. John was a kind man and strong and honorable legislator. He will be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to those he served. Loved by all who knew him, John’s smile and that special twinkle in his eye as he kidded with friends will be missed by so many. We send our sincerest condolences and prayers to the Wightman family during this difficult time.”
Gov. Pete Ricketts released a statement via Twitter:
“I were saddened to learn of former Sen. John Wightman’s passing. His leadership in the Unicameral and legacy will be remembered.”
Wightman was 78.
