A western Nebraska jury has found a 25-year-old man guilty of shooting a man in the back of the head and stuffing him in a barrel.
Zachary Mueller has been found guilty of First Degree Murder of 33-year-old Pedro Adrian Dominguez after a jury trial in Morrill County District Court.
The Morrill County Sheriff’s office began the murder investigation in December of 2015 after receiving a call from a farmer who found a barrel in Red Willow Creek. Officers took the barrel to the Bayard City Police and opened it, discovering the body of Dominguez inside. An autopsy at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Authorities report the investigation discovered Dominguez was shot in the back of the head while riding in a car with Mueller south of Bridgeport on November 22nd of 2015. The body was put in the barrel which was recovered December 4th.
Mueller was arrested in Cheyenne, Wyoming two days later after he stole a vehicle and led police on a short pursuit.
