Two members of the University of Nebraska – Omaha wheelchair basketball team will compete in an international competition after being named to the 2017 U.S. Men’s U23 World Championships Team. Freshman Jeromie Meyer II is from Henderson, Nebraska and says being chosen was quite an honor. Meyer says he has been playing wheelchair basketball for the past eleven years and it is a part of his life style.
University of Nebraska – Omaha junior Brent Regier from Woodbine, Iowa was also made the U.S. National team. Meyer says, “It is even more exciting that I got chosen with one of my team mates to be able to compete and have the privilege to represent the USA.”
Head Coach Mike Kult says both of these athletes worked hard on improving their game and to meet the high standards of the U.S. National Team and both students are great ambassadors for the U.S. and for the University of Nebraska – Omaha.
The team will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina for the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation Continental Qualifier from January 22nd through January 29th. The U.S. must place in the top two to qualify for the world championships in Toronto this coming June.
