Authorities in western Nebraska say a 37-year-old North Platte man shot and killed himself after being chased by law enforcement.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says officers moved to arrest Robert Mills on a felony warrant Sunday afternoon. North Platte police tried to make contact with Mills while he was walking in the city. Police say Mills ran into a neighborhood. He was armed.
According to the sheriff’s report, Mills eventually ran into an alley and shot himself.
A grand jury will investigate the death in accordance with state law. Nebraska law requires a grand jury investigate any death of a person either in custody or during an attempted arrest.
Mills had been sought after failing to appear in court in December to be sentence on charges of sexual assault, child abuse, and being a habitual criminal.
