Travel is dangerous in some areas of Nebraska today. National Weather Service – Omaha Meteorologist Becky Kern says conditions are clear near the Kansas border but change drastically as you head north. As you hit the I-80 corridor there are reports of one to three inches of snow with higher totals the further north you go.
Kern says, “If you are going towards Valentine and other areas in the north central parts of the state that is where we’ve had the most, 17-plus inches of snow.” She says the Nebraska State Patrol is recommending no travel in those areas due to the wind and trying to clear roads. A winter storm warning is in effect for areas north of Tekamah north to the South Dakota border. A special weather advisory is in effect from Burwell north and west to near Chadron.
Norfolk is reporting nine inches at this time with totals ranging from one to two inches near Lincoln.
Those traveling east may run into travel problems as well. Kern says there are a few inches of snow along I-80 but north of that line a winter storm warning is in effect.
