Officer Shillerberg was struck by gunfire in the ankle. She was treated and released from a hospital on Monday. She and Officer Matthew Skradski currently are on administrative leave as this officer involved shooting continues.
An internal investigation is underway.
Suspect, 20-year-old Monroe Evans III, remains in critical condition.
Police were called to 31st and Turner Blvd. around 1 p.m. Monday after a report of a suspicious man looking into windows. When officers arrived they saw the suspect, Monroe Evans III. Witnesses say that police were attempting to talk to Evans who was armed with a handgun. That is when shots were fired and Officer Shillerberg was struck by a bullet and Evans struck several times. That led to a “help an officer” call where many officers responded. The call was canceled minutes later.
Evans was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. He underwent surgery at some point and police says his condition remains critical.
