A 5th grade student at Wahoo Public Schools was struck by a pickup while walking home from school on Wednesday. 11 year old Mason Triplett was rushed to a hospital where he was later died.
It is an emotional day for the student body and staff at Wahoo schools. Superintendent Brandon LaValey says, “Mason, he was a sweet and kind kid and cared about by his friends, by students in the school and staff members.” He says crisis counselors are at all of their buildings today to help students and staff cope with the loss.
The accident happened at North Chestnut Street near Highway 77. Investigators say the pickup driver is cooperating in the investigation. The Saunders County Attorney will also determine if charges will be filed against the driver.
