The Nebraska baseball team is hoping to avoid a rough opening weekend that has plagued it in recent seasons. The Huskers head to Arizona and open Friday against UC-Riverside with the first of a four game series in Tempe.
Over the past five seasons the Huskers are a combined 4-13 on opening weekend.
“Staying inside and not having the ability to be outside is not an excuse here”, said Nebraska coach Darin Erstad. “We have facilities that allow us to get everything done. We have got our work in.”
Erstad says the non conference schedule will prepare the Huskers for the Big Ten race. Baseball America has picked Nebraska to finish behind preseason favorite Maryland.
“They’re going to keep coming. We are not going to stop playing good teams and our conference is not getting worse, it is getting better”, added Erstad. “It is exciting the direction our conference is going.”
