Sarpy County could add Facebook to growing number of data centers

February 15, 2017 By Karla James

Sarpy County is already well known for data centers and it appears another big company is interested in building one at Highway 50 and 370 south of Papillion. Jeff Beals is the vice-president of marketing and communications at NAI NP Dodge in Omaha and says the latest addition could possibly be Facebook.

Beals says, “It sounds like it is getting close but not necessarily a done deal. These things are very sensitive and I think a lot of people are surprised that the name of the potential company for that big project in Papillion came out.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed.  I think it is getting close to the end from what I understand.”

Beals says this would be one of the largest data centers with 2.4-million square feet on a 128 acre site. He says this would be one of the biggest private developments in the Omaha metro area.  He says the good news is that data centers pay a lot in property taxes and create a lot of economic activity without a lot of social need.  The data center would create more than 100 jobs and typically pay very well.

There are a number of data centers located in Sarpy County including Yahoo, Cabela’s and Travelers.
