The Omaha man who was convicted last year of killing his girlfriend and her young daughter was sentenced on Wednesday to two life terms in prison.
Prosecutors say 24-year-old Dontevous Loyd shot and killed 22-year-old Destacia Straughn and her two-year-old girl, Kenacia Amerson-Straughn, in December of 2015.
Court records show after kicking in the door, Loyd shot and wounded three other people in Straughn’s apartment. For those actions, his sentence includes another 45 to 50 years.
Loyd could have faced the death penalty but pleaded “no contest” to multiple charges including: first-degree murder and attempted murder.
