The Nebraska Democratic Party, People of Omaha, Women’s March on Omaha, Indivisible Omaha and several other groups held a “We the People Town Hall” meeting Tuesday in Omaha. Organizers are disappointed because members of the Nebraska delegation were invited but none attended. Then came the rumor that 2nd District Congressman Don Bacon would not be doing town hall meetings period. He says nothing could be further from the truth.
Bacon says, “I’m doing town halls. We are going to be doing them all over the district but they are going to be hosted by businesses, churches and civic groups. They get to invite who they want and a lot of these businesses obviously have Republicans and Democrats, people on both sides of the aisle. What I want to avoid is giving the Indivisible group, who stated very clearly on their website, we want to take over these town halls, grab the mike and don’t give it back. I will tell you that most Republicans and Democrats reject that kind of behavior.”
Bacon says his goal is to have an honest dialogue without screaming and shouting from the opposition and instead hold a civil discussion. Bacon says between last Thursday and Sunday he attended 24 events, three yesterday and has five scheduled for today.
