After using the role of underdog as motivation during the regular season the Nebraska Wesleyan men’s basketball team must quickly adapt to the role of favorite. The Prairie Wolves are the top seed in the Iowa Conference Tournament and host Central College tonight in the semifinals.
“We were the preseason pick for number eight in the conference so we have used that as motivation and have been out there as the hunter to try and prove everybody wrong”, said Nebraska Wesleyan coach Dale Wellman. “Now we are the hunted so we have to rise to the occasion.”
The Prairie Wolves take on a Central team that has thrived on the road in the post season. The Dutch were the first team to win three road games in claiming the Iowa Conference crown a year ago.
“Last year as the fifth seed they went through and got the automatic bid”, added Wellman. “This year they are the fifth seed again and opened with a nice win at Simpson so they are going to be ready to go.”
If Nebraska Wesleyan wins the Prairie Wolves will host the winner of the game between Wartburg and Loras on Saturday night for the Iowa Conference championship game.
