A 14-year-old who was riding in the back of a car which crashed after speeding near the CentruyLink Center in downtown Omaha has died from injuries suffered in the wreck.
Kevin Ramirez-Cabrera of Omaha died upon arrival at the hospital.
The Omaha Police Department reports both police and firefighters responded to a report of a personal injury crash very early Saturday morning. The police investigation determined the car was speeding northbound on Riverfront Drive when the driver lost control of the car and hit a metal light pole on the west side of the street.
Ramirez-Cabrera was not wearing a seat belt. He was rushed to CHI Creighton University Medical Center with extremely critical injuries. Hospital personnel pronounced him dead when he arrived.
Neither the 15-year-old driver nor the front seat passenger reported any injuries. The driver did not have a driver’s license nor a valid learner’s permit, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation.
