Gov. Pete Ricketts has signed into law an overhaul of state banking regulations.
Ricketts, during a signing ceremony, said the comprehensive legislation (LB 140e) updates state regulation of the banking industry.
Sen. Matt Williams of Gothenburg, who is a banker, said this is the first overhaul of banking laws since 1963.
“Think about how things have changed, how technology has changed, how language has changed, and then I would like you for just one instance to, and this is going to sound self-serving as a banker, but (think about) how important the banking industry is to growing businesses and having a state be successful long-term,” according to Williams.
The measure is part of Governor Ricketts efforts to reform state occupational licensing regulations.
