A Nebraska day care provider has been closed by state officials after traces of marijuana were discovered in a child under her care.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says Michelle Nicklas cannot provide care for any children other than her own.
Nicklas had cared for 10 children at her day care near Hickman.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies arrived at a Bryan Medical Center emergency room in Lincoln Monday night after a two-year-old girl had been brought to the ER by her parents. They reported the girl had been lethargic. The child tested positive for THC.
An investigation concluded Nicklas had baked marijuana brownies over the weekend, then baked cookies for children at her day care on Monday using the same pan. The parents of the other children under her care have been notified.
DHHS reports Hickman had operated the day care in her home since 2012 without incident.
