Death penalty hearing continued for Anthony Garcia

March 30, 2017 By Karla James

The death penalty hearing in Douglas County District Court for murderer Anthony Garcia took only a few minutes this morning. Garcia’s defense team will now be joined by the Commission on public Advocacy and additional time was given for them to prepare.  District Judge Gary Randall added this case needs to come to a close soon.

Judge Randall says, “I’m quite concerned about this because everybody is entitled to closure in this matter. The victim’s families are all here today.  It has been five months and you folks have gone forward with really very little.”

However, Judge Randall says he has to be responsible and protect the rights of the defendant.

Garcia is being sentenced for two murders in 2008 and two in 2013 – all had connections to Creighton University’s Pathology Department. Prosecutors say the killings were revenge after he was fired from a residency in that department.
