Sarpy County Sheriff’s detectives are sifting through thousands of messages left on Higgins’ Roofing Company’s Facebook page. Owner John Higgins is also a referee and angry fans say he failed to make a call that contributed to Kentucky’s loss to North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. Higgins received death threats in the form of phone calls to his home and at his business. County Attorney Lee Polikov says charges could be filed against these angry college basketball fans.
Polikov says, “That could be a felony charge of terroristic threats and so once we finally get the reports we will look through it and try to fit it into a category if it measures up not only a felony but also a misdemeanor charge, some type of harassment.”
That harassment was so severe that hundreds of comments were posted on Higgins’ business Facebook leaving negative comments. Angry fans also took to Twitter and other business review websites and left nasty comments.
Higgins did meet with law enforcement officials this week and the investigation continues.
