Nebraska coach Mike Riley says the intensity level of Bob Diaco’s defense was a highlight of the Husker’s first live scrimmage of the spring.
“That has to be an emphasis and a mindset and I think he is all over that”, said Riley. “It is one of the key ingredients in winning and turnovers being the other one.”
Riley says the race at quarterback remains too close to call. Junior Tanner Lee and redshirt freshman Patrick O’Brien are battling to replace Tommy Armstrong Jr.
“I am really happy with both guys”, added Riley. “We have had overall outstanding spring practices with both of those kids and I want it to keep trending that way.”
Riley briefly touched on his thoughts on the scrimmage, noting good performances on both sides of the ball.
“I thought defensively, there were a couple early drives except for one they didn’t let allow the touchdown,” Riley mentioned. “They made a lot of plays and I think as it went on, it grew stronger offensively on converging nine, 10, 11, 12 play drives that were well executed by each quarterback.”
Nebraska’s spring game is April 15.
