There is shock and sadness in the halls of St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Elkhorn today. 52 year old Principal Norm Hale died yesterday in a traffic accident near Colby, Kansas. Authorities there say Hale was making a U-turn and was hit by a semi. He was returning from a trip to Colorado to see his new grandchild for the first time.
Superintendent for the Catholic Schools Patrick Slattery played a huge role in supporting the parish after two young boys died last summer. Three-year-old Aspen Seemann died in a drowning accident last June and 2 year old Lane Graves died in an alligator attack in Orlando last August. Slattery says, “He was trying to lift the community up through prayer and just helping with the needs of any and all of these families. He was very kind and very humble.”
Hale came to Elkhorn in 2015 after serving as elementary principal at Norfolk Catholic Schools. Slattery says Hale was recently appointed president at Norfolk Catholic Schools and was looking forward to that next opportunity in his career.
Funeral services are pending.
