The fifth annual Nebraska Science Festival is set for April 20th through the 29th. Kacie Baum with the University of Nebraska Medical Center is coordinating this event and says it features sciences and technology related activities for groups, families and individuals.
Baum says, “We are truly statewide and a ton of events for the public. A lot of them are free and things for all ages. We have stuff for little toddlers, for families to teens and even senior citizens so we have something for everyone.”
Baum says all ages are invited to take part in the SciFest Social Media Scavenger Hunt April 20th through the 29th. Participants can take a picture of an item in a clue and post it to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hash tag #nescifest. Each day a winner will be selected at random for a free t-shirt.
On April 21st, the Nebraska Engineering Senior Design Showcase will be held at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. It showcases new and innovative projects from graduating engineering students. They are also offering tours of the Nebraska Engineering complex, Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab and Memorial Stadium.
Baum says one of the most interesting events this year is April 22nd at the Boiler Grand Hall in Lincoln. They are teaming with Bugeater Foods for a five course bug sampler. All participants must pre-register for this event.
There is a March for Science April 22nd in Lincoln, a Words 4 Birds at Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center on April 23rd and a showing of the Academy Award nominated film “Hidden Figures” at Beatrice High School on April 27th.
There are several star parties on April 22nd at Branched Oak Observatory and another April 27th at the Wildlife Safari Park Education Department.
Baum says they will wrap the week up with a SciPop Interactive at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum on April 29th. They will feature the science behind Harry Potter, Star Trek and comic book icons. Participants are encouraged to come in costume and be ready for a fun filled afternoon.
Events will be held in Omaha, Lincoln, Ashland, Aurora, Beatrice, Bellevue, Columbus, Denton, Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, Raymond, Scottsbluff, Valley and Wayne. You can find an entire event schedule at www.nescifest.com.
