The lines were long outside Baxter Arena Thursday as people waited in line for the “Stand Up, Fight Back, Vote Democrat” Rally.
Six-thousand tickets for the event went fast and most were there to hear what former presidential candidate and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders had to say.
Not all were supporters.
This woman stated, “We are just out here protesting Bernie Sanders’ socialist policies. we are a nonpartisan organization so we don’t endorse candidates at all but we do hold certain conservative principals such as free market, free trade and limited government so we are here protesting those socialist ideals and combatting debating with people having civil discourse discussion that we are looking forward to.”
Others attending wanted to take the Bernie Sanders movement a bit further. This supporter said, “I have a petition to draft Bernie for a new People’s Party. It is a party that would not take any corporate money because the two party system so corrupt and it not able to be reformed because they serve the donors rather than the people.”
Even though there were a few hecklers in the crowd, they were asked to leave and did so peacefully.
