An investigation is underway after the death of an inmate at the Douglas County Corrections facility Tuesday. Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning says the incident was reported sometime after 5 p.m. Sheriff Dunning says they received a call that an inmate had assaulted a corrections officer. While deputies were heading to the facility they were informed that the inmate was being taken to a hospital.
The inmate is identified as 61 year old Steven Claycamp who was incarcerated for possession of a controlled substance. Reports show he became combative with officers and was placed in a restraint chair and given some type of injection to calm him down. A short time later he became unresponsive and then unconscious and 911 was called. He was taken to a hospital with CPR in progress died at the hospital.
The investigation into Claycamp’s death continues.
