The Memphis Redbirds scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat the Omaha Storm Chasers 6-4 in Pacific Coast League action at Werner Park.
Storm Chasers designated hitter Jorge Soler crushed his third homer of his Major League Rehab Assignment with the club and third baseman Garin Cecchini slammed a game-tying longball off the left field foul pole in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Soler started the scoring with his mammoth solo shot to left-center to push the Storm Chasers ahead 1-0. After Memphis answered with a tally in the fifth, both teams traded a trio of runs in the sixth, which included an RBI single from Omaha outfielder Bubba Starling and Cecchini’s roundtripper off the left field foul pole. The score remained at 4-4 after that point until the tenth, when outfielder Tommy Pham came through with a two-run double down the left field line to move Memphis ahead for good.
The announced attendance of 8,313 was the largest of the season for the Storm Chasers over the course of the 2017 campaign through 12 openings. In addition, it was the third-largest crowd to see a game at Werner Park in the month of May in ballpark history, behind only a pair of sellout crowds of 9,023 on May 6, 2016, and again on May 29, 2016.
