Warren Buffett’s favorite steakhouse ready for a big crowd

May 5, 2017 By Karla James

While in Omaha, Berkshire Hathaway shareholders like to eat where CEO Warren Buffett dines. Gene Dunn is the owner of Gorat’s Steakhouse near 50th and Center Street and says this is by far their busiest weekend of the year.

Dunn says, “Our main thing is making sure we have enough steaks. This year we think we are going to have a few more T-bones so we’ve ordered in over 1,300 T-bones along with about 1,000 eight and ten ounce steaks.”

Dunn says they added extra staff to serve the expected crowd and put up a tent in the parking lot to handle the overflow while diners wait for their table. He says the large crowd started arriving Thursday night and that will continue through 11 p.m. on Sunday. He says reservations are booked full but they may be able to squeeze in a few walk-ins as well.

Many people are curious what the Oracle of Omaha eats when he dines at Gorat’s. Dunn says, “He always has enjoyed the T-bone but many times he will order a filet now. His appetite isn’t quite as big as it used to be. He is a meat and potatoes guy. He doesn’t like the vegetables but he does enjoy a good steak.”

Dunn says they expect to serve more than 3,000 diners and go through 1,500 pounds of beef.
