A study is planned to determine the benefits of merging the University of Nebraska – Omaha and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Millard – Ralston State Senator Merv Riepe introduced that legislative resolution last week
Last month it was announced that UNMC Chancellor Dr. Jeffrey Gold would also serve as the new chancellor for UNO. Senator Riepe says both campuses work on projects together so this could be the next logical step i the progression of both campuses.
Senator Riepe says, “We have to put together an oversight plan to try to weigh the advantages and disadvantages and take a look at it from a taxpayer standpoint. What makes UNO if it is a stand-alone and the Med Center if it is a stand-alone or if it is combined into an Omaha campus. How will it further Omaha and how can it further Nebraska?”
Senator Riepe says it has been 50 years that the University of Omaha joined the N-U system and now is a good time to pause and take a look at the future of both campuses.
