Creighton will be the top seed when it hosts the BIG EAST Tournament this week. The Bluejays finished 11-4 to win its second conference regular season title in four years.
“This team deserves a lot of credit”, said Creighton coach Ed Servais. “I think a lot of people forget we were 1-11 at one time. I think the changes started to occur when we started to practice better.”
The Jay’s season finale at Butler was rained out they won the regular season after Villanova upset St. John’s 9-6.
“It was a very unique way of winning it but we will take it and we are not going to give it back.”
Game 1 on Thursday between No. 2 St. John’s and No. 3 Xavier and will start at 2:30 pm (CT). Game 2 between No. 1 Creighton and No. 4 Seton Hall will start at approximately 6:30 pm (CT).
The winner of the tournament receives the league’s automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Championship. Xavier won the tournament in 2014 and 2016, St. John’s was the champion in 2015. Creighton has been the runner up in the last three years.
