A permanent unoccupied chair has been installed at Werner Park in Papillion. The park is the home of the Omaha Storm Chasers baseball team and seats over 8,000 people. Chris Casey is with the American Legion Riders and says this chair is an excellent way to honor and remember those who sacrificed for our great country.
Casey says, “It is absolutely very important for the American Legion Riders as a group to have gotten this chair placed in Werner Park. There are still over 82,000 of our service members still unaccounted for as far as POW/MIA’s.”
Casey says there will be a plaque by the chair and the point is to bring education to people. There are those that still don’t know what the POW/MIA flag means. The numbers associated with that and why we need to remember is a piece of that education. He says they also have an obligation to remember the family members of those unaccounted for and have lived their lives not knowing what happened to their loved one.
The POW/MIA chair will be dedicated in a special ceremony on Sunday, May 28th at 6 p.m. prior to the 7:05 Storm chasers Rock Round game. Omaha Post 1 Honor Guard will post colors, offer a rifle salute and taps.
