Nebraska coach Darin Erstad is not surprised that a record number of Big Ten baseball teams are headed to an NCAA Regional. The Huskers are one of five league teams in the post season which equals a record set two years ago.
“Man has the conference really improved since we have been here”, said Erstad. “Two years ago five teams go. Last year three teams go and now we have five, again. The ability to consistently get that many teams in is exciting for this conference.”
Nebraska opens Friday in Corvallis, Oregon, against Yale. Top ranked and host Oregon State is the top seed.
Nebraska, who enters the NCAA Tournament with a 35-20-1 record, won the Big Ten regular-season title with a 16-7-1 mark during conference play. The Huskers are making their third NCAA Tournament appearance under Erstad, who was named 2017 Big Ten Coach of the Year. Nebraska also qualified for the national tournament in 2014 and 2016 under Erstad.
