There is a big change regarding health care operations in Omaha. CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Campus Chief Medical Officer Dr. Devin Fox says the hospital at 30th and California Street is closing for good on Friday.
Dr. Fox says, “At 7 a.m. on Friday morning, we will close operations of our emergency department and trauma center up the ramp here. That is what they are working on right now is getting the gate up so we can clearly indicate that operations are not functioning here any longer at that point. At the same instant open up operations at our new community based emergency department that is just around the corner at 24th and Cuming Street. At that same instant the Level-1 Trauma Center will stand up at the 75th and Mercy Road Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Campus as well.”
Dr. Fox says they are in the process of moving patients to one of five other locations CHI Health operates in the Omaha metro area. That process should be complete by Saturday morning at the latest.
The 30th and California Street hospital was built in 1978 and served as a trauma center for the north downtown area. Prior to that the hospital was located at 10th and Castelar Street and it was known as St. Joseph Hospital. That facility was built in 1892.
The soon to be former Creighton University Medical Center will be transformed into apartments and condos.
