Creighton’s Greg McDermott is not headed to Ohio State. McDermott announed on Twitter this morning that he will remain the Bluejays’ head coach:
“I’m blessed and honored to be the coach at Creighton…..and am looking forward to many more great years in Omaha!”
McDermott’s announcement comes after various reports that he had been offered the head coaching job at Ohio State. The Buckeyes fired Thad Matta this week after 13 years at the helm, including five Big Ten regular season championships and and two trips to the Final Four.
The 52-year-old McDermott has been with Creighton for seven seasons and led the Bluejays to four trips to the NCAA Tournament as well as a move from the Missouri Valley Conference to the BIG EAST. The Jays finished 25-10 this past sdeason and lost to Rhode Island in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament
