Nebraska becomes the center of America’s wrestling world this weekend as the University of Nebraska hosts the U.S. Freestyle World Team Trials at the Devaney Center.
Nebraska Wrestling Coach Mark Manning says the best, the very best, wrestlers from throughout the country come to campus, competing to win a spot on the United States World Team which competes at the World Wrestling Championships in Paris later this year.
“You’re going to see a lot of action, a lot of will, a lot of fight, a lot of determination, and a lot of talent displayed,” Manning tells Nebraska Radio Network.
The Freestyle World Team Trials get underway Saturday at the Devaney Center. Prior to that, the Junior Freestyle World Team Trials will be held on Friday.
Manning says these are talented, dedicated young men.
“You know, basketball, baseball you might play for fun. Wrestling, you don’t really wrestle for fun. You wrestle to win and so, it’s a tough sport,” But one which teaches lessons for life, according to Manning.
USA Wrestling says this is the most important domestic men’s freestyle event of the year.
As many as 30 All-American wrestlers will compete.
