The Douglas County Board approved to allocate $20,000 this week for a study that will look at the possibility of locating the National College Baseball Hall of Fame Museum in Omaha.
Douglas County Commissioner Mary Ann Borgeson says money is needed to conduct the study and it will come from their Visitors Improvement Fund that comes from hotel and motel tax collected from those staying in Douglas County. She says funding will be used to prepare the documents and for consulting and legal fees.
Borgeson says, “This is presented to the College Baseball Hall of Fame Foundation. There are others, I don’t know who they are, but my understanding is that there are other communities that are in the running so you want to put together the best plan possible.”
Borgeson says another aspect is sustainability. What other venues you can work out of that. She says, “It would be a big hit during the time the College World Series is here. What can we offer throughout the year as different venues to bring folks there in order for it to be sustainable building and venue throughout the year?”
They are looking at a possible site downtown near 12th and Cass Street as a location for the museum. No word on how long the study will take to complete.
