Senator Ben Sasse attended the conference and says it was good to see the different points of view – and good for President Trump to see that too. Senator Sasse is for full repeal and replacement of Obamacare and most of what is going in the conference is less than that. He is calling the GOP bill nothing more than Medicaid reform legislation but is more than agreeable to compromise on the legislation but those must be workable and provide assurances to the average American.
Senator Deb Fischer also attended the conference and says there are many opinions that were put on the table for discussion. She says the Republican party is diverse at the national level and they represent diverse states. There are different priorities for people in Nebraska than there are for people in Maine. She has reached out to several agencies within the state to get their point of view on things were needed in Nebraska. She is listening to people and reaching out to leadership and craft something that addresses the concerns and priorities of Nebraskans. One of her priorities is making sure those with pre-existing conditions receive coverage.
Senator Fischer remains optimistic that GOP leaders will accomplish the task and is willing to work through the 4th of July break and cancel the August recess if necessary.
