Riley predicts more changes to recruiting calendar

June 29, 2017 By Todd Kimm

Mike Riley

The college football recruiting calendar is changing and Nebraska coach Mike Riley believes even more changes are ahead and says a July first signing date is a matter of when not if.

For the first time college football will have an early signing period this year, a 72 hour window that will allow players to sign from December 20th through the 22nd.

“There was discussion about that kind of early signing date at the end of June or the first part of July”, said Riley. I think the December one ended up being a compromise for the moment.”

Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst was part of an NCAA Committee that worked on the early signing period and believes a summer date is the reality of the current landscape.

“Primarily now kids are making unofficial visits to kick the tires to make the commitment”, said Eichorst. “Having an opportunity before they start their senior season of football at their high school just seems to make sense to me on a lot of levels.”
