Four motorcyclists from Iowa were killed in western Nebraska when a vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into two motorcycles south of Lake McConaughy.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports the accident occurred Saturday morning just after 9:30am on Highway 26 in Keith County.
NSP reports troopers believe a vehicle crossed the center line and struck the two bikes heading the opposite direction. Each motorcycle had two riders.
Killed in the crash were 61-year-old James Matheny and 52-year-old Shelia Matheny of Bedford, Iowa on one motorcycle and 58-year-old Michal Weese and 59-year-old Jerolyn Weese of Council Bluffs, Iowa on the second motorcycle.
The driver of the vehicle has been taken to Colorado for treatment of injuries.
NSP says the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Nebraska State Patrol urges motorists to use extra caution during the holiday weekend as a record number of travelers are expected to be on the roads throughout the country.
