Minnesota Timberwolves rookie and former Creighton standout Justin Patton is sidelined after undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot.
Patton broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot during a recent workout. The surgery was performed in New York, and Patton is out indefinitely.
The 6-foot-11 Patton will not participate in the NBA summer league in Las Vegas, which begins this week. Minnesota opens training camp for the season in September
Patton was the 16th overall selection in the first round in last month’s draft. The Wolves acquired the pick from Chicago in a draft-night trade that also allowed them to acquire Jimmy Butler.
Patton averaged 12.9 points on 67.6 percent shooting last season and was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
