Gov. Pete Ricketts is touring businesses which have decided to locate in Nebraska or expanded, thanking them for their contribution to Nebraska being recognize by Site Selection magazine with the Governor’s Cup.
The cup goes to the state which has the most economic development projects per capita.
Ricketts hopes to follow the 2016 cup with another in 2017.
“Again, we need to make sure companies are continuing to invest in our state and then it’s going to be relative to the other competition as well, what’s going on in other states,” Ricketts tells reporters during a stop at LI-COR Biosciences in Lincoln. “But, if you look at our region, we did very well compared to even states that are bigger than us, like Missouri. So, again, just making sure we have the right environment; that companies have the confidence to invest in our state.”
More than 100 businesses either decided to locate in Nebraska or expanded their businesses here last year.
State Economic Development Director Courtney Dentlinger says Site Selection counts both business which locate to the state and those which expand their operations in a state. She says several companies have re-invested in the state, giving Nebraska a vote of confidence.
“What we’ve seen, what I hear, from folks in business is that productivity in Nebraska is higher than what they see even in other plants that they have across the United States or in other countries,” according to Dentlinger.
Other factors, according to Dentlinger, include Nebraska’s centralized location, both to other states and to Mexico and Canada as well as its regulatory environment.
