It is called the Cotton-Perdue Bill and it is one of the most significant immigration reform the U.S. has seen in more than 50 years. Supporters say it would cut immigration by 50 percent over the next ten years. Chairperson of the Nebraska Democratic Party Jane Kleeb is far from impressed. She says we are a nation of immigrants, we always have been a nation of immigrants and we will always be a nation of immigrants.
The immigration bill would cut legal immigration by 50 percent over ten years using a grading system where people would be judged on their salary, advanced degrees, ability to speak English and if they have the skills needed for the economy. Kleeb says obviously supporters have not considered the agriculture sector that relies on these individuals for success.
Kleeb says, “If anyone spends a day in the fields with farmers and ranchers or in Omaha at the meat packing district, then they will know that immigrants are the ones that are putting in the labor in order to make sure we have affordable food in the grocery stores and on our kitchen tables.”
Kleeb goes on to say that Donald Trump is completely out of touch and that the White House is in trouble and they are doing things to increase their poll numbers. However, she says that is not what you do as a responsible leader of the United States of America.
