Friends, family say good-bye to utility general manager killed in northeast Nebraska accident

August 11, 2017 By Brent Martin

A funeral Mass has been held for a northeastern Nebraska utility general manager struck and killed by a car while attempting to walk across Nebraska Highway 84.

55-year-old Dan Leise of Hartington, general manager of the Cedar-Knox Public Power District, had been volunteering with a group cleaning up the grounds of St. Michael’s Cemetery near the intersection of Highway 84 and Nebraska Highway 57 in Hartington when the fatal accident occurred Monday.

An emergency crew flew Leise to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, but he died of injuries suffered in the wreck.

The funeral Mass was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office reports 72-year-old Alton Halle of Hartington was driving east when he struck Leise with his car. The accident remains under investigation.
