Lincoln public school officials have released the names of the two 17-year-olds killed after they attempted to beat a train at a railroad crossing.
Lincoln Southwest High School Seniors Yankiel Rodriguez and Emanuel Martinez died in the wreck very early Friday morning. Both previously attended Lincoln High School.
Lincoln police say the two drove around a railroad crossing arm and into the path of an Amtrak passenger train.
Police say the wreck occurred at South Folsom and West South Streets in Lincoln. The train and car came to a stop near Van Dorn Streets.
The Amtrak train had nearly 300 passengers onboard. None of the passengers were hurt. The train returned to the Lincoln station for inspection. It resumed a trip west this morning.
