City officials have warned residents not to drink the water. They even say they cannot guarantee the water would be safe if boiled.
An emergency notice issued to Seward residents Sunday evening warns of a “major water issue.”
The Big Blue River is out of its banks in Seward, but city officials haven’t determined whether that is related to the water towers running dry.
City officials say they will refill the towers from the city wells. Health officials says nitrate levels in the water remain high. They advise residents not to use city water for drinking or cooking.
What water remains in the system can be used for bathing or washing. Water pressure remains low.
